Jack of All Trades

Literally.  That’s us.  ‘Cause we’re those people that just have to do everything ourselves.  Not sure if that makes us handy, self-sufficient, or just stubborn… or, as I feel in regular bouts of confusion and uncertainty, really just foolish…  It’s a foggy line.

We’ve got to figure out not only construction to build this house, but also – since we eschewed purchasing plans and decided to design our house on our own – architecture, structural engineering, computer software mastery (i.e. Sketchup), materials science, negotiating, plumbing, electrical (well, we’ll see about that one…), budget planning, carpentry, interior design…

And, as the old saying goes, “Don’t quit your day job” – well we haven’t! — We’re both employed full-time in jobs that have absolutely nothing to do with any of this.

I thought building a tiny house would be easier than building a standard house, and I’m sure in some ways it is, but tiny houses have their own difficulties and unique challenges – for one thing your foundation is a mobile trailer!  That factor we at least expected.  But, just as significant and formidable: everything’s so tightly packed together in a tiny house!  Which means it is all very, very, very interconnected and there’s little room for adjustment without affecting almost every other aspect of the house.

Add to that list above “Tetris ace”.
