Because my idealist being (live the ideal!) does not like to be squelched by the piddly details of physical laws, it’s been difficult to reign my tiny house dreams in. This has created substantial frustration, research time, and a lot of anxiety for Eli and I, particularly as we try to remain within the bounds of a realistic budget for this tiny house build. I’m not going to lie, it’s been a stressful lot of months – pretty much since January – with a good bit of hindsight do-over wishing and a lot of feeling ignorant about many things on my part. Damn you, physics, bringing me back down to earth! (Literally – the law of gravity is the basis for our concerns about our tiny house’s weight. 🙂 ) Is this going to be just a really expensive learning experience?! I really like things to be very specifically tailored to what I need and want, but don’t have the money to hire someone to do things to my specs, so I do them myself! Which causes a lot of work and many misgivings when you have little prior experience to guide your way. Sigh. Eli, my much more grounded in reality husband, has been a trooper working through all this.
So, I know my updates on how things are going have had long spaces of silence and darkness between. I have to be honest, there’s been a lot of feelings of darkness in this time – and those feelings are not particularly motivating for sharing your thoughts with the (often judgemental) minds of others.
BUT! We are persistent folks and although little tangible progress has been made on the build, there has been oh so much time and effort, still, going into our tiny house. AND, last weekend, we felt the time was ripe for swinging back into the actual construction of the house! Walls! We now have two walls assembled! Okay, they are the short walls, but they are tangible walls, nonetheless. And, Eli had some time he could take off of work, so he was able to assemble the framing for our bay window!!
Looks like great progress.
Thanks!!
Awesome! But you left out all the details about the trials and tribulations. The trials and tribulations are what have always scared me away from the idea of a do it yourself tiny home (that and letting go of my junk). It would be cool to hear what obstacles you faced and how you overcome them. Looking at the window framing, I realise how impressively complex your design is, but it looked so simple in SketchUp. Glad to see you go guys are still persevering. Looks like you have a great work space!
Hey, Cynthia! Thanks for the supportive words. I wanted to give the reply to your comment due attention, so apologies for taking so long to respond. And, I thought doing a full post instead of just commenting here, would be more in line with what you were hoping for. So, check out my post I just wrote about some of those trials and tribulations.
