And, we thought the roof would take a day or two! Ha! As is so often the case with human minds, the other side appears so close – it’s just right over there! – but the time of completing a task really twists to follow the path around to the back of gully, then back out again to that other side. Along with us ground-stranded beings, undertakings don’t seem to fly as the crow does either.
But, we have made the trek – our tiny house has a fully finished tiny roof!
In general, metal roofing systems are not designed for such a small roof. Many of their elements are large and sprawling as there needs to be little concern with space or making parts look proportional when you have a traditional large roof. However, a huge ridge cap on a tiny roof would look a bit odd, not to mention the glorious roof window whose space requirements it would be cramping. So, the crafty Mr. Rose strikes again, designing a self-made vented ridge cap system with the help of some custom made metal pieces by a local metal working company. Although a few things we might have done differently if this was our second go-around, we think the roof turned out to be quite a good-looking lid for the Hygge Hale – and more important, it seems quite workable! (Time will tell for the certainty of that assessment, but we’re feeling confident!).
And, not to be forgotten, the bay window got it’s roof, as well. Thanks to the head-scratching, method-testing, ingenuity, and perseverance of Mr. Eli T. Rose – because if the house roof was tiny, the bay window roof is, well, nano – the bay window is excellently adorned. Without the thoughtfulness and tests and re-thinking again of ETR, that roof could have been an atrocity. But, it came out like a perfect miniature. Whew! Sometimes it’s good to be at work all day when the brain-melting frustration parts get tackled by your partner. 😉
So, we’re capped!
Now on to next. I wonder how poorly we’ll predict the time of completion of the next chapter of the build… 🙂
You are too kind!
🙂
Looks great! You have such a resourceful husband!
Love, Mom
Thanks!! And, I’m sure that “resourceful husband” is blushing (or glowing) from the praise.
What siding are you going to use? I assume that is the next project.
Actually, windows are up next! But, for the siding, we’ll be using cedar shingles for the top portion of the walls, and cedar lap for the bottom. See the screenshots from our digital model for a visualization.
Looks excellent. And it holds the bossman, who is standing on it. Genius job on the roof cap. Eli well done. I see you have lots of clamps.
Thanks!!
