If you have a sharp eye and notice background details, you might have spotted in photos in some of the last few posts that we started boxing in the wheel wells. A unique aspect to building a house on a trailer, is having to deal with the wheels!
Some folks who build tiny houses on trailers just build the walls of the house on the inside of the wheel wells, so the wheel wells are entirely outside of their house. Other people build the walls of their tiny house all the way to the outside edge of the trailer and wheel wells, so the wheel wells extend pretty far into the interior of the house.
Eli and I wanted to have tiny eaves on our roof, so we built our walls three inches in from the edge of the wheel wells. This meant that there was still a few inches of the wheel wells that extend into the interior of the house. So, we have to frame around the wheel wells and cover them with insulation. Eventually, both wheel wells will be hidden within our kitchen cabinets.
We didn’t put the final front board on yet as we’re unsure if we’ll want to bring any utility lines in through this space around the wheel wells. But, some headway on the interior!
